Catch Broadway classic Dreamgirls in Shanghai
Still remember Beyoncé's 2006 hit Listen that is part of the soundtrack to the musical film Dreamgirls?
The eponymous musical, a Broadway blockbuster, is being staged in Shanghai, offering audiences in China a chance to embark on an inspirational journey through 20th century American popular music characterized by gospel, R&B, disco, smooth pop and more.
Opened in 1981 on Broadway, the show was performed 1,521 times, taking home six Tony awards, including Best Book of a Musical and Best Choreography. In December 2016, the show's London production marked its West End premiere and went on to scoop Olivier Awards for original stars Amber Riley and Adam J. Bernard.
Set in 1960s-70s, Dreamgirls chronicles the rise from obscurity to superstardom of "The Dreams", a young female singing trio from Chicago in the glamorous and competitive world of the entertainment industry.
