The 33rd Hong Kong Film Awards (HKFA) was held in Hong Kong on April 13. Chinese director Wong Kar-wai's kungfu epic "The Grandmaster" made history and took home 12 HKFAs, breaking a record previously held by Peter Chan's "Comrades: Almost a Love Story," which won 9 HKFAs in 1997.

Not many actors and actresses from Chinese mainland have been recognized by the HKFA, partly due to its qualification regulations for nominees. To earn an nomination, a film must satisfy two of the following criterias: the director is a Hong Kong resident, at least one of the production company is registered in Hong Kong and at least 6 members of the production crew are Hong Kong residents.

This year, actress Zhang Ziyi won the Best Actress Award for her role in "The Grandmaster," actor Zhang Jin won the Best Supporting Actor Award for his role in "The Grandmaster," and actress Zhao Wei's directorial debut "So Young" took home the Best Film from Mainland and Taiwan Award. Several actors from Chinese mainland were nominated as well, including actress Tang Wei for Best Actress (Finding Mr. Right) and actor Tong Dawei for Best Supporting Actor (American Dreams in China), but they all brushed shoulders with the award.

Here, let's recap some of the actors and actresses from Chinese mainland who have actually won at the HKFA.
