Tang poems concert celebrates Lantern Festival
Join us to watch "Echoes of Ancient Tang Poems", a concert jointly performed by iSING! Suzhou and the Philadelphia Orchestra to welcome this year’s Lantern Festival on the official Facebook and YouTube pages of China Culture at 10:00am, Feb 5.
Accompanied by the Philadelphia Orchestra, 15 singers from 10 countries led by Liao Guomin, a conductor from Macau, interpreted newly composed songs based on well-known poems from the Tang Dynasty (618-907). The songs included Quiet Thoughts by Night, Drink to Me, Docking by Bridge at Night, Yellow Crane Tower and Farewell on the Prairie.
The artists from the international young singers art festival iSING! Suzhou includes two Grammy Award winners and a Broadway musical lead.
The Philadelphia Orchestra was the first American orchestra to visit China back in 1973 since the founding of the People's Republic of China and 2023 marks the 50th anniversary of the momentous occasion. The concert conveyed the oriental aesthetic through music, echoing the strong friendship between the orchestra and Chinese people.
The event premiered in Philadelphia on Jan 6 and was held in New York on Jan 7, winning high praises from the audience. The concerts were supported by the China International Culture Association, the Chinese Consulate-General in New York and the Chinese Permanent Mission to the United Nations.
