Charlie Chaplin's son starts first musical tour in China
Few people know that his father Charlie Chaplin was also a composer. When describing his father, Chaplin admitted, "I have no idea if I'm influenced by him musically. But I know I love his music."
Since 2005, Chaplin has been deeply engrossed in electronic music and composing. Talking about his musical creations, he admits that classical music and visual arts have influenced him. "Applying the paint on the canvas, then scraping it off, and applying it over again, etc., over and over, until the work is finished."
Chaplin said he believes that music is therapy, a method to discover his own identity. "It's very much a trial and error process. It can be quite tedious. I try to surprise myself, even shock myself sometimes by going with choices which are not immediately pleasing to me."
Chaplin's China tour starts on Friday, beginning with a performance at a special gallery show in Shanghai. In other cities, audiences will enjoy club shows with more classic stage settings.
Despite not knowing much about Chinese music, Chaplin mentioned, "We heard that the electronic underground music in China is quite interesting and we are looking forward to discovering many new musicians from the people we will meet."
