WASHINGTON -- US President Joe Biden on Saturday spoke with former US President Donald Trump on phone after the latter was injured in a shooting incident at a campaign rally in Butler in the state of Pennsylvania, media reported.
Trump is out of hospital after shooting, according to media reports.
NEW YORK -- Former US President Donald Trump said on social media that he was shot at a rally in Butler in the US state of Pennsylvania on Saturday.
"I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear," he said on his social media platform Truth Social.
Trump said he knew immediately that something was wrong in that "I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin."
"Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening," he said.
In the post, Trump said one person was killed at the rally, and another badly injured, adding that "nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who is now dead."
"During former President Trump's campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on the evening of July 13th at approximately 6:15 pm, a suspected shooter fired multiple shots toward the stage from an elevated position outside of the rally venue," the US Secret Service said in a press statement.
"US Secret Service personnel neutralized the shooter who is now deceased. US Secret Service quickly responded with protective measures and the former president is safe and being evaluated," the statement said.
"One spectator was killed, two spectators were critically injured. The incident is currently under investigation and the Secret Service has formally notified the Federal Bureau of Investigation," it added.
US President Joe Biden said on Saturday that he had been briefed on the shooting at Trump's rally.
"I'm grateful to hear that he's safe and doing well," Biden said on X. "I'm praying for him and his family and for all those who were at the rally, as we await further information."

Trump was rushed off the stage at a rally in Butler in the US state of Pennsylvania on Saturday after gunshots rang out through the crowd.
Blood could be seen on the side of his head and his ear as he was escorted off the stage by Secret Service agents, video footage showed.
The suspected gunman was dead and at least one rally attendee was killed, local media reported, quoting Butler County district attorney Richard Goldinger.
Popping sounds rang out over the rally a few minutes after Trump began his speech.
Screams could be heard in the crowd, and Trump held up his fist to the crowd while he was escorted away from his rally and into a vehicle.
"The former president is safe," Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said in a statement posted on X.
"An incident occurred the evening of July 13 at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania. The Secret Service has implemented protective measures and the former President is safe. This is now an active Secret Service investigation and further information will be released when available," the statement said.
US President Joe Biden, who is in Delaware for the weekend, has been briefed on the situation, reports said.
The incident occurred only two days before the Republican National Convention, scheduled to kick off in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Monday, during which Trump is expected to be formally nominated as the party's presidential candidate for the Nov 5 election.
Biden says he is "grateful" Trump is safe.
