SHENYANG - Following are facts about China's National Games:

1st National Games, held in Beijing in 1959, featured 36 sports and attracted 10,658 athletes from 29 delegations. The People's Liberation Army topped the medal tally with 117 gold, 95 silver and 64 bronze.

2nd National Games, held in Beijing in 1965, featured 22 sports and attracted 5,922 athletes from 30 delegations. The People's Liberation Army topped the medal tally with 72 gold, 53 silver and 37 bronze.

3rd National Games, held in Beijing in 1975, featured 28 sports and attracted 12497 athletes from 31 delegations. Guangdong topped the medal tally with 38 gold, 26 silver and 23 bronze.

4th National Games, held in Beijing in 1979, featured 34 sports and attracted 15189 athletes from 31 delegations. The People's Liberation Army topped the medal tally with 50 gold, 42 silver and 46 bronze.

5th National Games, held in Shanghai in 1983, featured 25 sports and attracted 8,943 athletes from 31 delegations. Guangdong topped the medal tally with 26 gold, 25 silver and 24.5 bronze.

6th National Games, held in Guangzhou in 1987, featured 44 sports and attracted 7,228 athletes from 37 delegations. Guangdong topped the medal tally with 54 gold, 35 silver and 36 bronze.

7th National Games, held in Beijing and Sichuan in 1993, featured 43 sports and attracted 7,551 athletes from 45 delegations. Liaoning topped the medal tally with 44 gold, 48 silver and 44 bronze.

8th National Games, held in Shanghai in 1997, featured 28 sports and attracted 7,647 athletes from 46 delegations. Shanghai topped the medal tally with 42 gold, 34 silver and 32 bronze.

9th National Games, held in Guangdong in 2001, featured 30 sports and attracted 12,314 athletes from 45 delegations. Guangdong topped the medal tally with 69.5 gold, 48 silver and 51.5 bronze.

10th National Games, held in Nanjing in 2005, featured 32 sports and attracted 9986 athletes from 46 delegations. Jiangsu topped the medal tally with 56 gold, 38 silver and 42 bronze.

11th National Games, held in Shangdong in 2009, featured 33 sports and attracted 10,900 athletes from 46 delegations. Shandong topped the medal tally with 63 gold, 44 silver and 46 bronze.
