My heart goes out to the millions of people in Asia who have lost everything in recent calamities. Unfortunately, in all such incidents it is the poor who suffer the most. Recovery takes a longer time, and in some cases donations and relief don't reach the needy in time.
In the recent past, China (like some other countries) has been a victim of natural disasters with a huge loss of people and property. I hope the authorities would focus more on building better quality houses in disaster-prone areas so that people could feel safe.
On the other hand, rescue teams must be praised for saving so many lives.
The Shanghai Expo theme of "Better City, Better Life" must be extended to smaller cities and villages as well to make China a truly egalitarian society.
