Meng Jianzhu, head of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, met a delegation of cyberspace security enforcement officials led by Alejandro Mayorkas, deputy secretary of the United States Department of Homeland Security, in Zhongnanhai, the central government's headquarters, in Beijing on Nov 13.

“As two powerful countries in the area of Internet development, China and the US share common interests in safeguarding cyberspace security. The heads of the two states have shown great foresight in the field. During President Xi Jinping’s visit to the US in September, he reached a consensus with US President Barack Obama on cyberspace security, which provides guidance for the cooperation on cyberspace security law enforcement. Before President Xi’s state visit to the US, I was appointed by him to pay a visit to the US and exchanged in-depth views with my US counterparts on the prominent problems in cracking down on cyberspace crimes. China is willing to implement the consensus reached by the heads of both sides with the US, improve communication and coordination, deepen the cooperation in cyber security law enforcement, and push forward the new relationship between China and the US to make more progress,” Meng says.

Meng points out that cyberspace crimes impact the vital interests of the people of China and the United States, and China hopes to strengthen cooperation in law enforcement and begin the task of combating cybercrimes, further promote communication, exchange and cooperation regarding online security between China and the US, and organize the first high-level conference on the matter. China intends to make cooperation on cyber security a highlight in the relationship to benefit the people of both countries.

Mayorkas says the US will carry out communication and cooperation with China on cyber security law enforcement and promote the healthy development of the China-US relationship with an honest and open attitude.

State Councilor and Minister of Public Security Guo Shengkun, Wang Yongqing, secretary-general of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, and officials from the Office of the Central Leading Group for Cyberspace Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of State Security, the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Justice attended the meeting.
