As of Sept 2016, Pingtan has reportedly imported 1,003 batches of liquor worth 85.4 million yuan ($12.6 million) from Taiwan, according to statistics released by the Pingtan Entry-exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau

The Pingtan government initiated a pilot quality inspection policy for Aoqian Taiwan-style Town at the end of 2014. In other words, certain Taiwan products which have passed local certification and quality inspection tests can be exempt from random quality inspections upon entering the market.

In terms of liquor, substances which have passed the Taiwan Accreditation Foundation (TAF) recognized lab test may directly enter the Pingtan-Taiwan Commodity Duty-free Market, currently known as Aoqian Taiwan-style Town, an approach that appears to be paying dividends.

Prior to the launch of the policy, all Taiwan liquor entering the market was subject to random quality inspection, which resulted in postponed sales dates and increased vendor cost. Han Jiacai, chief of the Cargo Inspection Department of Pingtan Entry-exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, revealed that the unit price of Taiwan liquor ranges from 1,000 to 2,000 yuan per bottle, and that the inspection department needs to draw two bottles from each category. The new policy could save tens of thousands of yuan in vendor cost per shipment.

Through support of the preferential policy, more and more liquor vendors have sprung up in the Aoqian Taiwan-style Town and liquor prices have become more transparent and reasonable. A booming Taiwan liquor market has been created in Pingtan.
