The launch ceremony of the official website?of Jinjiang [Photo/chinadaily.com.cn]?
After nearly one year endeavor, the official English?web portal?of the city of Jinjiang, Fujian province has officially launched on Sept 21.
The website, en.jinjiang.gov.cn,?produced by?China Daily?and Jinjiang municipal government, will open to over 200 countries and regions and establish a communication platform between Jinjiang and rest of the world.
Jinjiang, a coastal city located in East China's Fujian province, is one of the ports of origin on the ancient maritime Silk Road. It administers 13 towns, six sub-district offices?and 391 communities, with a permanent resident population of 1.09 million and a migrant population of 1.3 million. In 2014, the county-level city's GDP ranked 5th among 2,856 counties in China.
Jinjiang is known as "Capital of Brand". It has a dynamic private sector, as more than 16,000 enterprises operating from here. It has led county-level cities in Fujian province in GDP for more than 20 consecutive years and ranks high among China's 100 top counties. With its numerous industrial clusters, Jinjiang attracts plenty of overseas merchants to hunt for business every year. The China Int'l Footwear Exhibition held in April every year is an example of Jinjiang's robust economy which attracted over 500 enterprises from 70 countries and regions. And with the launch of website, those who are interested in "Capital of Brand" can get comprehensive information about investment, tourism, education, health and local gourmet among others on it.
The city of Jinjiang is also a famous source of overseas Chinese, with people who began emigrating as far back as the Song and Yuan dynasties (960 - 1378 AD). More than 3 million overseas Chinese can trace their ancestry back to the city and more than?1 million Taiwan people call Jinjiang their native place. However, as time goes by, more generations of overseas Chinese are no longer learning Chinese and has less chance to get back to Jinjiang. The website will not only keep them up to date on Jinjiang but also help to know more about their ancestral roots and arouse their feeling of belonging to the city.
In the future, en.jinjiang.gov.cn will join hands with China Daily, its content distribution platform to fully exhibit Jinjiang to the world. The website will be a window for the world to know more about the city and is expected to have a positive effect in attracting international investment and promoting its economy.
