Hefei family tour booms during Dragon Boat festival
Updated: 2014-06-11

The three-day holiday in early June included two festivals - Children's Day and the Dragon Boat festival. From May 31 to June 2, the city of Hefei in Anhui province received 1.6 million tourists, and tourism income reached 607 million yuan ($97.2 million), a year-on-year increase of 7.2%, and 8.4% respectively.

As reported, during the holiday season, Binhu Wetland Park, The Three Kingdoms Relics Park, and Daishan Lake Scenic Area held fruitful folk activities. Hefei Aquarium, Binhu Wetland Park, and Hefei Museum meanwhile hosted a number of Family Fun programs.

The city of Chaohu launched "landscape of Chaohu" and "humanity of Chaohu" – two travel routes which were popular with tourists and received 58,600 tourists in three days. Zhongmiao Temple, Laoshan Island, Ziwei Cave, Turtle Park and other scenic areas attracted a large number of tourists traveling by car.

The "2014 Dragon Boat festival trips analysis report", published by online travel site ly.com, showed family outings were the dominant travel method during the three-day holiday. Short-distance tours were popular but the performance of long-distance trips was less so.

Due to the large numbers of traveling people, a total of 40,300 coach trips departed from Hefei during the three-day holiday, transporting 915,900 passengers – a year-on-year increase of 5.96%. To cope with the huge passenger flows, the coach company added 1,169 coach trips.

According to data published by Shanghai's Railway Bureau, 5.14 million short-and-medium-distance railway tourists departed under the bureau’s catchment during the Dragon Boat festival holiday - a year-on-year increase of 102.8%.
