Online fraud on the rise in capital

Telecommunications fraud cases in the capital have fallen by 24.2 percent but Internet fraud cases have shot up by 19.6 percent since January, police said on Friday.

The mixed bag of numbers during the first seven months were revealed during a press conference on Friday at the public security bureau.

Wang Wenjie, the press officer with the bureau, said Beijing police cracked 3,370 cases of such fraud - an increase of 41.3 percent.
