College graduates encouraged to join military
BEIJING - Local governments across China have issued favorable policies to encourage college grads to join the military in accordance with a decree jointly issued by the People's Liberation Army (PLA) headquarters and several central government departments.
Ten percent of this year's college graduates have been recruited by the PLA and the Armed Police Corps with the help of preferential local policies.
The government of East China's Fujian province said that in the future, 10 percent of government posts and 15 percent of jobs at state-owned companies will be reserved for servicemen after they finish their time in the military.
Central China's Hubei province will give 20,000 yuan ($3,225) to new military recruits who have graduated from local universities, as well as double the resettlement subsidies they receive after leaving the military.
The PLA headquarters has issued a decree calling for fully carrying out policies regarding the recruitment of college graduates.
