Guangzhou official sacked, investigated

A senior official from the Guangdong provincial capital has been dismissed from public office and transferred to a procuratorial organ for further investigation for serious violations of Party discipline and State laws.

Mei Heqing, a senior official from the Guangzhou Party Commission of Discipline Inspection, said on Monday that Guangzhou’s top anti-graft body has filed to further investigate Liu Jiansheng, a member of the Party committee of Guangzhou’s Baiyun district.

“Liu, a deputy prefecture-level official, was also suspected to have had serious economic problems when he was in office,” Mei told a news conference.

But Mei declined to reveal details on Liu’s case while it was under investigation.

Liu is just one of the senior officials to be investigated for serious violations of Party discipline and State laws in recent months, Mei said.

Early this year, Guo Qinghe, deputy mayor of Conghua, a suburban city of Guangzhou, and Liu Yantang, deputy director of the Guangzhou Administration of Forestry and Gardening, have been put under shuanggui, a procedure in which Party and government officials are asked to confess their wrongdoing at a stipulated time and place.
