Anti-graft chief stresses intra-Party supervision

Xinhua | Updated: 2013-05-18 03:56

BEIJING - Wang Qishan, the anti-corruption chief of the Communist Party of China (CPC), stressed Party inspection work as an important form of intra-Party supervision, saying inspections should serve as a deterrence to corrupt officials.

Wang, secretary of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI), made the remarks at a conference and training session held Friday on central-level Party inspection.

Wang said the CPC faces challenges both at home and abroad, but the fundamental challenges, including work style malpractices and corruption, rest within the Party itself.

He added that inspection work will be strengthened this year.

Wang, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, urged inspection staff to be exacting in uncovering problems and reporting them to relevant authorities.

The inspection work should focus on detecting malpractice such as trading power for money, abusing power for personal interests, bribery and corrupt work styles such as formalism, bureaucracy, hedonism and extravagance, Wang said.

Furthermore, efforts should also be made to uncover breaches of Party political disciplines and corruption related to the selection and promotion of officials, he added.

Wang also stressed self-discipline among the inspection staff.

The CPC's inspection system requires inspection bodies at various levels to supervise officials at lower levels, and the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council is responsible for inspecting and supervising state-owned enterprises.

The CPC central committee inspection team will inspect five provincial localities, a ministry, three state-owned enterprises and a university during the first half of this year.
