BEIJING: China's parliament on Thursday adopted the Law on Guarding State Secrets and the amended State Compensation Law at the closing session.

The 14th session of the Standing Committee of the 11th National People's Congress (NPC) concludes in Beijing on April 29, 2010. Wu Bangguo, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, presided over the concluding meeting. [Xinhua]

Wu Bangguo,chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People' s Congress, or the top legislature, presided over the closing of the four-day bimonthly session.

Wu said, the amendment to the State Compensation Law will regulate the use of public power, protect legitimate rights and interests of citizens, legal persons and social organizations.

Wu said, the Law on Guarding State Secrets has made clear legal liability in guarding state secrets, which will help safeguard the state security and interests.

The legislature also reviewed the report on migrant workers which stressed protecting the rights and interests of this group and improving social services for them. Wu also urged to quicken the pace of urbanization.

The Standing Committee reviewed the report on the development of cultural industry which urged greater development of the industry so that it becomes a new engine of economic growth.

Wu said the Committee also reviewed the report on road traffic management.

The Committee reviewed a report on examining the enforcement of a law protecting Taiwan compatriots' investment in which more efforts were called for to build a more transparent and sound legal environment for Taiwan investors.

The closing session also adopted the bilateral treaty on extradition with Indonesian, and the Protocol on Explosive Remnants of War.

Wu also presided over a lecture on development and management of the internet hosted by the Standing Committee of the National People' s Congress.
