Northwest China's Xi'an city is ranked as the most competitive Chinese city in implementing the Belt and Road Initiative, according to the latest survey taken in June by Hong Kong-based China Institute of City Competitiveness.

The "One Belt and One Road" initiative, also known as the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, refers to the routes connecting China and Europe. They will cover more than 60 countries surrounding China and many will benefit from China's outward-looking investment and development strategies.

The initiative accounts for an aggregate gross domestic product of $21 trillion, or 29 percent of the world's GDP, and involves 65 countries with a total population of 4.4 billion.

Some of the key elements, such as location advantage, development potential and competitive advantage, were taken into consideration when drawing up the list, the institute said.

Let's take a look at these 10 cities with the most comprehensive competitiveness.
