Beijing vows tough stance on smog

China has announced an intensified fight against smog and air pollution, calling for combined efforts from private companies and individuals.

Lyv Xinhua, spokesperson of the second session of the 12th National Committee of the CPPCC, made the announcement on Sunday at the opening press briefing of the annual "two sessions" meetings in Beijing.

"Smog has become one of the biggest issues that concerns people's daily lives and health. We will make unswerving efforts to address the issue," said Lyv.

"A clear sky will not be a distant dream," he added.

Many cities, including Beijing, have been deeply affected by smog, which has become a health hazard for millions of people in the world's second biggest economy.

Earlier in 2013, China rolled out a plan dubbed "Article 10" in a bid to tighten regulations on environmental protection and streamline the polluting industries.
