The Weifang-Yantai high-speed railway, which began operating on Oct 21, 2024, has significantly improved travel convenience for people living along the route, playing a vital role in enhancing regional connectivity and fostering economic and social development.
According to Cai Haoli, director of the Yantai Municipal Transportation Bureau, the Weifang-Yantai high-speed railway has safely transported a total of 294,100 passengers in the two months since its inauguration, with an average daily ridership of over 4,800.
The primary travel destinations for passengers include Jinan, Yantai, Weifang, Qingdao, and Weihai, with significant passenger flows originating from Laizhou, Longkou, Penglai, and Zhaoyuan.
"To further address the needs of economic and social development as well as passenger travel demands, the Yantai Municipal Transportation Bureau is striving to increase train frequencies and optimize arrival and departure times," added Cai.
At midnight on Jan 5, China Railway will implement the train schedule for the first quarter of 2025. The Weifang-Yantai high-speed railway will undergo several adjustments, with plans made to introduce nine additional round-trip train services, increasing the total to 17.
Following the adjustments, five new round-trip train services will be added between Jinan East Station and Weihai Station, Weihai Station and Weifang North Station, and Yantai Station and Weifang North Station, facilitating rapid intercity travel between Weifang, Yantai, and Weihai.
Additionally, four round-trip cross-province train services will be introduced, connecting Yantai Station to Zhengzhou East Station, Beijing South Station to Yantai Station, Chengdu East Station to Yantai Station, and Shenyang North Station to Rongcheng Station.
