Visually impaired student receives special support from college
"Welcome to Anhui University of Arts!" Visually impaired student, Yu Xiaonan, finally achieved her dream of becoming a college student after being warmly welcomed by her senior schoolmates this September.
Yu was born in 2005 in Anhui province with congenital eye disease. Her vision is extremely limited, only able to perceive a blurry world. Despite her visual impairment, Yu's sensitive hearing and strong memory allowed her musical talent to shine.
After attempting the national college entrance exam, or gaokao, twice, Yu was admitted to Anhui University of Arts to study musical performance this summer.
Bearing No. 0001 on her Braille admission letter, Yu was the first student admitted to the university this year. Once her acceptance was confirmed in July, the school took immediate measures to create a supportive environment for her to complete her college education.
In light of her family's situation, with her mother accompanying her on campus and her father bearing financial responsibilities, the school arranged a campus job for her mother.
This allowed her mother to conveniently care for her while also easing the family's financial burden.
Furthermore, the school invited Yu and her parents to visit the campus, helping Yu familiarize herself with the campus environment in advance.
