Nissan Motor Co has been making most of smart technologies to cut traffic accidents in China, one of the Japanese carmaker’s largest markets.

Watanabe Seigo, deputy general manager of Nissan’s AD/ADAS and Chassis Control System Engineering Department, said the carmaker has been conducting road tests using the vehicle-to-everything technology to improve safe driving and road safety.

He made the remarks at the 18th China Road Safety Forum held in Beijing on Tuesday.

Watanabe said that relevant tests are held in Suzhou, Jiangsu province, adding that coupled with local infrastructure, the V2X technology can overcome the limitations of intelligent connected vehicles.

He said that Nissan has been continuously pushing back the boundaries of advanced driving-assist technologies, from its ProPILOT in 2016 to its 2.0 version in 2019.

The technology is already available in some of Nissan models sold in China, including the Pathfinder.

Nissan is developing a new technology called Ground Truth Perception, using the next-generation lidar, with technological development scheduled be to finished later this decade.

Niikura Osamu, vice-president of Nissan (China) Investment Co, said as one of the first global carmakers to enter China, Nissan has been involved in the China Road Safety Forum for 18 years in a row.

He said Nissan has been partnering with local companies and organizations to conduct tests and release findings in terms of ADAS and autonomous driving in an effort to reduce traffic accidents and make mobility safer, more convenient and sustainable.
