Both sides of Taiwan Strait pay tributes to national hero Zheng
Over 200 participants from both sides of the Taiwan Strait attended an event in Beijing on Tuesday to commemorate Zheng Chenggong, a national hero who expelled the Dutch colonists in 1662 and recovered Taiwan.
Highly respected in Taiwan, Zheng promoted education, agriculture and maritime trade in the island, significantly accelerating Taiwan's establishment and progress. His efforts facilitated the flourishing of Chinese culture in Taiwan, particularly fostering closer ties between Taiwan and the mainland.
Su Hui, vice-chairwoman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, the country's top political advisory body, said it was a glorious history for all Chinese to resist external aggression and build homeland.
