Climbing mountains, watching performances, touring the grasslands, riding horses, dancing in groups and visiting museums, the tourism activities in Hinggan League of Inner Mongolia autonomous region in North China are rich and colorful.

From January to May 2024, Hinggan League welcomed 11.43 million tourists, achieving tourism revenue of 7.76 billion yuan ($1.07 billion).

Arxan, a county-level city in Hinggan League, has invested more than 5 billion yuan to promote tourism infrastructure and services.

Currently, the city has one world-class geo-park, one 5A tourist attraction, and two 4A tourist attractions.

With the support of strict ecological protection policies and a comprehensive approach to enhancing the ecosystems of mountains, rivers, forests, fields, lakes, grasslands, and deserts, as well as effective measures to prevent forest and grassland fires, Arxan has achieved a forest coverage rate of 81.2 percent and a green vegetation coverage rate of 95 percent. The concentration of negative oxygen ions has also reached as high as 23,000 per cubic centimeter in the city.

In 2023, the city received 5.37 million tourist visits, netting a tourism revenue of 6.71 billion yuan. The tertiary industry in Arxan, which is primarily driven by tourism, accounts for more than 60 percent of the city’s gross domestic product.

The tourism industry is also driving people of all ethnic groups to start businesses to create more employment opportunities in the city.

According to official data, the city has over 1,000 tourism enterprises, which have created more than 10,000 jobs. Relying on the tourism industry, 60 percent of the residents who were living below the poverty line have been lifted out of poverty, allowing them to enjoy a better life in the city.
