Student chops 350 kg of firewood for grandparents in village
College students are often encouraged to share household chores like washing dishes and sweeping the floors during their vacations at home, but one student from Yunnan province has competed something remarkable — chopping stacks of firewood weighing over 350 kilograms for his grandparents, Jimu News reported.
Fu Tian, a 19-year-old undergraduate, spent his winter vacation at his grandparents' rural home in Yanxi village, Zhenxiong county. To ease his grandparents' burden, on the final days of his vacation, Fu set off to the woods one kilometer away from the home at around 8:00 am to cut and collect firewood and would not return until 6:00 pm.
He recorded the hard work in a video, which sparked an online sensation after he shared it on social media. The video also included a sentence that reads: "I can do nothing but prepare the firewood enough for my grandparents to use until summer comes."
This video has received more than 200,000 likes and over 10,000 comments. In the comments section, many praised Fu's hard work and sense of responsibility, while some college students also showed their efforts for their elder relatives with photos.
"What's in the pack basket is more than firewood, but also my sincere love for my grandparents," said Fu, who grew up with his grandparents.
"The older I get, the less time I will spend with my grandparents. Though I don't enjoy heavy labor work, I want to help my grandparents as much as I can," said Fu.
Fu is a student majoring in high-speed rail service at a vocational college in Kunming, capital of Yunnan province. The new semester starts on Feb 28. His journey from Kunming to the village is tortuous and time-consuming, which involves a four-hour high-speed train ride, followed by an hour-long minibus trip, and finally a 40-minute walk.
