As China moves to play a larger role in multilateral organizations, US allies are becoming more vocal in their discomfort with the potential economic pain that could be in store if the Biden administration takes further action to isolate China, said Sam Sutton in his recent report The US’s lonely clash with China published on Politico.

As policymakers struggle with economic uncertainty in the wake of persistent inflation, banking sector jitters, and tsuris over Russia-Ukraine crisis, rising tensions between the US and China will make for an uncomfortable backdrop for global finance ministers and central bankers. Especially after Taiwan “leader” Tsai Ing-Wen met with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy last week, China-US ties have become even more icy.

“There are virtually no US allies that are really all-in on the idea of a cold war with China” Eurasia Group President Ian Bremmer told MM over the weekend.

In addition, French President Emmanuel Macron's said his position was that any potential confrontation between the global superpowers should be avoided by Europe during his visit to China last week.
