Chinese enterprises became the biggest winner at the awards ceremony of UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) Global Call 2022 which ended on Monday in Shanghai. UNIDO called for proposals centered around green low-carbon technologies and net zero goals.
Seven companies stood out from the 30 shortlisted candidates as the winners of UNIDO Global Call 2022, a flagship initiative of UNIDO at the backdrop of climate change, post-epidemic economic reconstruction and green recovery, as well as the UN's Decade of Action for Sustainable Development.
China State Construction International Holdings Ltd and Tianzhu Textile from East China's Anhui province were the winners in the agriculture and food categories, COSCO Shipping Development Co Ltd and Shanghai MS Energy were the winners of the green growth category, French company Bertin Technologies won the medical and health category, and the winning title for advanced digital production category went to German enterprise GmbH and Honeywell (China) Co Ltd.
According to Fatou Haidara, managing director of UNIDO, this is the third consecutive year holding the UNIDO Global Call, and this year the organizer received 452 applications from 155 cities in 45 countries around the world.
"The diversity of responses to the world call proved once more that innovative solutions to many challenges are already out there," said Haidara.
Gong Weixi, chief of Investment and Technology Promotion and Institutional Partnerships Division at United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), said, "The UNIDO Global Call initiative looks to seek solutions to the challenges confronting human beings, and the UNIDO Global Call led by UNIDO ITPO Italy and UNIDO ITPO Germany in 2020 and 2021 received a total of 1,394 technologies from 110 countries."
According to Gong, the highly innovative solutions and innovative application projects from all over the world provided good examples and cases for countries seeking sustainable development, and also help promote global cooperation and technological innovation in sustainable investment.
Xie Zhenhua, Chinese spokesperson for climate change affairs, said launching the UNIDO Global Call 2022 for the first time in China was very meaningful.
"The communications between international organizations in climate change and the efforts made in promoting green and low carbon technologies would help the development of technological R&D and applications across the world. I expect the technologies from the UNIDO Global Call 2022 could make their contribution to the world's sustainable development," said Xie.
The UNIDO Global Call 2022 is led by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization Investment and Technology Promotion Office (Shanghai, China) (UNIDO ITPO Shanghai), and co-organized by Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
