The reform of Chinese ink art has taken on new features since the 1980s. When home artists are being integrated more into the international art scene and under the influence, they are venturing with more vanguard approaches.

Ink Art: In A New Spirit, an exhibition now on at University Arts Centre of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, running through Dec 18, shows experimental works by ink artists from two generations.

The earlier group of them, represented by Wang Tiande, Wang Shuye and Zhang Quan on show, experienced the art movements throughout the 1980s and '90s. Their works show an individual interest in historic narratives as an approach to creation, reflecting on history and the rules of the world and exhibiting a philosophical outlook.

The other 10 artists come from a younger group. Their works show an even more intensified exposure to the cultural trends in the world.

The exhibition is the themed show of the third Culture & Arts Festival at the university which tends to engage people in the environment of traditional cultures and generate new ideas.
