Huawei Technologies Co's HarmonyOS has become the "most vibrant" ecosystem, with the number of devices that have installed the company's self-developed operating system exceeding 320 million, representing a 113 percent year-on-year increase, Yu Chengdong, CEO of Huawei's consumer business group, said on Friday.

More than 250 million third-party products equipped with HarmonyOS Connect for the internet of things have been shipped out of factories, surging 212 percent from last year, he said, adding over 2 million developers have already joined the ecosystem.

Yu made the announcement at the annual Huawei Developer Conference in Dongguan, Guangdong province.

He Gang, chief operating officer of Huawei's consumer business group, said at the conference Alibaba's online payment tool Alipay has formally joined the HarmonyOS ecosystem, which will provide users with more intelligent and convenient services such as online payment, medical insurance enquiry and provident fund enquiry.

He revealed HarmonyOS 4.0 will be released next year.

HarmonyOS, which has been used in a wide range of devices including smartphones, tablets and smartwatches, was first launched in August 2019 after the US government restricted the company's access to Google's Android operating system.

The company officially released HarmonyOS 3.0 last year.

Aito models, a new energy vehicle brand co-developed by Huawei and Seres, will be upgraded to HarmonyOS 3.0 in batches in the first quarter of 2023, Yu said.
