Hainan's Sansha TV makes a splash with app launch
Hainan's Sansha Satellite TV, the southernmost TV channel in China, officially launched its app in Beijing on Tuesday.
Sansha Satellite TV, which mainly serves residents of Sansha city of Hainan province and fishermen in the South China Sea, has spent the past eight years creating a series of programs to popularize marine culture.
The SSTV app will cover all the programs broadcast on its TV channel, and share media in Chinese and English. Through short videos, programs, photos, news and livestreaming, audiences can receive timely news updates and also enjoy the cultural and natural landscape of the South China Sea.
The app features an ocean knowledge quiz as well as ocean-themed songs and videos. Additionally, its turtle feeding game provides a fun way for users to learn about the ocean, in an effort to promote the protection of marine biodiversity and ocean ecology.
An event to recruit "chief experience officers" for Sansha city was also launched at the same time. Eight people will be selected to sail along with SSTV hosts on the cruise ship Nanhai Dream for Yongle Islands in Sansha. There, they will experience a special trip involving reef camping, sea fishing and snorkeling.
