Upcoming holiday to see travel surge
Domestic tourism market is likely to see 100 million travel visits for the upcoming Dragon Boat Festival (June 12-14), China's major online travel agency Trip.com Group said.
As of June 2, bookings via the online agency grew by 135 percent over the same period of last year.
Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou in Zhejiang province, Chengdu in Sichuan province, Nanjing in Jiangsu province, Chongqing and Changsha in Hunan province topped the most popular destination list.
Although sporadic COVID-19 cases have emerged in the Chinese mainland recently, the good control has buoyed travelers' enthusiasm, said Fang Zeqian, an analyst with the tourism research institute of Trip.com Group.
More than 60 percent of travelers plan to tour in their own province.
Themed tours featuring the culture and folk elements characteristic of the Dragon Boat Festival are especially popular among travelers, said the agency.
